WIKI Duos

OK- I revised some of the color and text on SI's blog and then added a comment about the parking condition at our branch- i can see this would be a very useful tool to be able to add comments for immediate release. For example, it would be helpful to be able to post a notice on days we close due to weather conditions, or to advertize a great program being held at the branch.

After practicing on the 'fake' SI branch Wiki, i find myself wondering what we can use it for in real practice. i like the idea to open up a KRL for public dialogue. I looked at the Stevens County Wiki project and two others: the Book Lovers Wiki- which was neat because one could click on a title and would be brought to the Princeton Library catalog- and the Book Lust Wiki, where one could "create a love shrine for their fave celeb"- something i've always wanted to do! (NOT)

Grandma's view

Oh, I love RSS! It is so cool to be able to have ready access to so many news, financial and art web sites without doing any searching a’tol. My, my, ain’t life wunnnerful and full of mystery when it comes to this new tech no logical stuff. I wish my grandma was still kickin’ so she could grab a hol’ of some of this stuff. She was thrilled to sit in front of the TV, let alone what she would think of blogs and stuff like that. Didn’t matter what was on the boob tube, she’d watch it. You know when you grow up on a farm and see the changes she did, TV is pretty hot stuff. She even flew in a plane with Amelia back when Amelia came to Bangor Maine. My grandmother snuck off and left her 8 children with the babysitter and flew. How daring can ye be?

Just read the blog “20 reasons why learning emerging technologies is part of every librarian’s job” and it all makes sense. Workers in the library need to stay in touch with what is happening in the larger world, not just in our small neighborhoods. We need to be able to be conversant with customers using current day technologies. Any job I’ve ever worked has had its own set of jargon and acronyms. We can’t afford to limit ourselves in this manner. Libraries and their workers need to be progressive and adaptable. This blog article goes along with the podcast, “7 ½ Habits of Highly Successful Life Long Learners” wherein it states how important in is to be always striving to learn. My two favorite lines in the podcast are quoted from Habit 2 and habit 4: Habit 2 states: “accept responsibility for your own learning”. Habit 4 states: “Use technology to your advantage”.
